NEW SUBSIDIES FOR DRAX
The Government has just announced brand new subsidies for Drax Power Station - the UK’s single biggest carbon emitter. Coming from our energy bills, these subsidies will fund further forest destruction, pollution of communities, biodiversity loss and huge carbon emissions. This decision makes a mockery of this Government's climate action claims.
We know that we do not need Drax. We need real green energy, climate action that improves people's lives like home insulation and lower energy bills from renewables.
Whilst the Government is clearly beginning to recognise that burning trees to generate ‘clean’ energy makes no sense, there should categorically be no further subsidies for Drax.
While this decision is a blow for the campaign, the fight is far from over.
Make it clear that we will not stand by and allow this to go ahead unchallenged. MP’s still have the power to challenge this in Parliament, and there are future subsidy decisions coming. It’s up to us to make it impossible for Drax to take any more of our money.
