Pay:  £18,750.00 (FTE £30,000)

Hours: 17.5 (2.5 d/w) (1 year fixed term. Extension funding dependent)

Come work for us! We are currently looking for a Mobilisation Coordinator to join our coalition. This is a new campaign role and you’ll work with our small staff team and member organisations to strengthen the local, regional and national network of groups working to end subsidies for industrial scale biomass and to secure a just transition for workers and communities. 

‍

You will be responsible for identifying and building strong relationships with key community groups, organisations and stakeholders across Yorkshire and England. You will develop resources and lead activities that bring communities together, strengthen connections and support collective action. 

‍

A key part of the role will be strengthening and growing community networks and the wider campaign by creating opportunities for groups to share knowledge and experience, creating and providing accessible resources and information, and organising events, workshops and other activities. 

‍

This role will primarily focus on mobilising our members and key communities around our campaign goals, while also helping to build the progressive power, relationships and capacity needed to support the wider coalition. 

‍

This role will involve regular travel across Yorkshire and other parts of England, with a willingness to work directly with communities on the ground and in person across a range of locations.

Key Responsibilities 

‍

• Building community power: help plan and run activities that bring people and communities together across Yorkshire and England. Organise events and workshops where groups can meet, share ideas and work together. 
• Build networks and partnerships: work with community groups, campaigners, organisations and coalitions to strengthen the movement working to end industrial-scale woody biomass. 
• Build strong relationships with community groups: develop and maintain relationships with a range of community groups and organisations. Understand what they need and look for ways to support them and support their engagement with the campaign. 
• Support campaigning: give groups practical advice, develop resources and support to help them take action. Help organise campaigns, mobilisations and other people-powered activities that support the overall goals and objectives of the Stop Burning Trees Coalition. 
• Support coalition campaigns: provide practical and strategic support to campaigns led by the coalition, including direct involvement on the ground when needed. 
• Campaign expertise: keep up to date with key issues affecting the campaign. Use this knowledge to identify opportunities, respond to changes and help influence relevant policies and practices at regional and national levels. 
• Build relationships with campaign stakeholders: develop positive working relationships with volunteers, activists, NGOs and other organisations working on issues connected to the campaign.

Key Skills and Experience

‍

• Experience working in a similar or related role (paid or voluntary).
• Experience designing and delivering movement building activities and network coordination for progressive causes (paid or voluntary).
• Confidence in designing and delivering in person events, community meetings, workshops or training.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and an ability to build trusting relationships with a range of people and groups.
• Experience of campaign strategy and the delivery of people powered campaign tactics.
• An ability to work independently, managing your own workstreams and to identify and pursue opportunities as and when they arise.
• A strong commitment to the Coalition’s mission and core values of climate justice.
• An understanding of the climate movement ecology and an appreciation of the various roles differing actors play in creating change.

Desirable Skills

‍

• An understanding of how colonialism, race, class, place and other intersections impact on the climate justice movement.
• An understanding of a just transition or experience in related movements.
• Connections to the climate movement, racial justice and just transition networks in Yorkshire and the Humber. 
• A working knowledge of the issues with industrial-scale woody biomass.
