Stop Burning Trees Coalition is holding a welcome call on January 19th at 7pm. If you're new to the issues around biomass or want to get involved with anti-biomass campaigning this is the perfect opportunity to learn more and find out how you can get involved!
The Stop Burning Trees Coalition is a collection of groups and people taking action against the destructive biomass industry. We are made up of a variety of groups and people, ranging from TUCs to health campaigners, all working together to bring an end to the harm caused by industrial biomass.
The biomass industry is responsible for destroying our forests and harming our communities around the world. Drax, the UKs single biggest carbon emitter, receives billions of renewable subsidies to burn millions of tonnes of trees a year. Just recently, BBC Panorama and CBC's Fifth Estate exposed Drax's logging of primary forests in British Columbia. This was following a Greenpeace Unearthed investigation which found further evidence of Drax's environmental racism.
The biomass industry is currently rapidly expanding, being sold as a false solution by governments and corporations around the world. It has never been more urgent to put a stop to this industry and stop the UK government and bill payers funding harm abroad.
