On the 19th of October, people around the world will be taking part in an International Day of Action to call for an end to forest destruction and tree burning in power stations, including at Drax Power Station in Yorkshire.

Join us on Thursday 12th October at 7pm to hear from frontline community members and activists about the devastating impacts of UK tree burning on communities around the world and to discuss how we can take action. We're delighted to be joined by special guest speakers, Dr Treva Gear from Dogwood Alliance, Michelle Connolly from Conservation North and by Len Vanderstar and Jay Gilden from Smithers in British Columbia.

Last year, BBC Panorama exposed Drax for logging primary forests in British Columbia, home to rare and endangered species. Join us to find out the most recent updates from these investigations. Michelle Connolly, Len Vanderstar and Jay Gilden will be speaking from first hand experience about the impacts Drax has on Canadian forests and communities.

In the US, Drax has been found repeatedly violating air pollution limits, emitting dangerous pollutants causing devastating health impacts to local communities. Drax’s pollution has been linked to driving environmental racism, where pellet production sites are primarily located in black, brown and poor communities.

Dr Treva Gear will be speaking about the devastation Drax is causing in the Southern US, where multiple investigations have found Drax emitting deadly pollution to local residents and driving environmental racism.

We’ll also discuss all the different ways you can get involved in the International Day of Action Against Big Biomass on the 19th of October! Everyone is welcome!
