The next few months are going to be a critical year for the future of biomass in the UK.
Later this year the Government will publish its biomass strategy setting out whether they will continue to subsidise Drax and the rest of the biomass industry to slash forests in the US, Canada and eastern Europe, ship them to the UK and burn them to generate electricity.
And, in the next few weeks, Drax are likely to submit their planning application for their new biomass energy with carbon, capture and storage (BECCS) plant.
Friends of the Earth and Biofuelwatch websites set out why this is such a bad idea.
We want to persuade the Government to stop destructive biomass burning and we need your help.
Join us to help us develop plans to achieve that goal.
You’ll hear from campaigners from Biofuelwatch, Friends of the Earth and Axe Drax and have your chance to make our grassroots campaign as effective as possible.
Together, we'll make plans to increase awareness and build a grassroots movement to stop the destruction of forests around the world to burn at Drax and other biomass plants.
You’ll also identify the key role that you can play in that campaign over the next year.
The session will be hosted on Zoom - you'll receive joining instructions in the confirmation email after you register.
